export of data for backup purposes
It’s already possible to export your contacts, opportunities and cases using the lists function – just bring up a list of all and choose export. We also back up your data automatically every hour. However, we do agree a single click export of all data would be nice. Vote it up and we’ll get it done.
16 September – job done! details here:

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

@Kris, We agree and are definitely of the view that customers own their data and should be free to move it to another service. The most portable format for most users is a CSV file.
We are making progress on this request. It's now possible to include history of emails and notes in the contacts CSV file. We are still working on the user interface to make this easy, but in the meantime if you need to do an export that includes history just drop us an email and we'll provide instructions.

You need to have this feature, people still get nervous hosting data on the cloud as it removes control which provokes the natural human response of fear. This feature would be simple to implement and would probably increase your conversion rate by 20%-40%. Even if it just chucks out an XML file?

I have set up a seperate feature request asking for the ability to export tasks. This seems a major oversight to me. Please vote for this feature request. Select New to see details

It would be ab-fab to have access to an 'export the lot to XML' button. Not for the purpose of moving to another platform (although it's always nice to know that you could), but because of all the linking between records it screams for XML instead of a flat-file.

yes indeed. A simple 'set it and forget it' tool would be nice! Offer a few choices on the data host provider that is 'Capsule Certified'.

The exported data for Contacts, Cases, and Opportunities, apparently excludes a lot of information that a user enters. For instance, for a given Opportunity I may link it to a vendor and associate it with Contacts who are my buyers and I may add notes about the History of my work to sell the portfolio and set Tasks. The Contacts, History, and Tasks information associated with the Opportunity does not get exported when exporting from the Lists screen. Users should be able to use the Export to File function to create reports and to preserve data.

It appears to be so simple to delete the entire database, even with 3 keystrokes, that a data backup which includes all notes, tasks, emails should be included.
I understand that Javelin most likely does maintain a backup of all data but going through the motions of restoring through Javelin might result in a few days of lost productivity. -

Would be good if this can be done in a structured format, that makes it easy to re-purpose the data within other applications.
CSV is always good for fixed format lists - but not so great for less structured stuff like contact history etc.
Would be good if there was an option to include files within the export (e.g. in a structured zip file)
