Associate one contact with more than one company
I need the ability to have one contact as the primary contact for several different organizations/companies.
Sometimes a person relates to more than one organisation, at the moment you need to re create the same person more than once and this person also appears more than once in your contact sheet it would be good if you could just add existing contacts to an organisation or the other way round as well as add new ones.
One contact works at two places - editor of two different newspapers. I want to be able to list these two organisations separately, but have this contact work for both... I don't think I can currently do this?
Many of my best contacts are part of multiple companies, I need to be able to show that those individuals are part of many different companies.
Very similar to Duncan Stockdill's suggestion but for a different reason. It is very common for people to belong to more than one organization - a company and a charity for instance. Or be an employee of more than one (possibly related) company. In the same way as someone might be on Facebook and Twitter. This would also allow duplicate contacts with different organizations to be merged.
I have to cope with the fact, that in my coontext many individuals have relations to more than one organization. So I think it'd be convinient to have the possibility to link a single person to many organizations (e.g. Work & NPO) to avoid defining a single person several times.
For now there are two options when you have a contact that provides services under multiple organisations.
Record the contact under their main organisation and record any additional relationships in the about field of the contact.
Record the contact multiple times, one for each organisation they work for. So in Capsule you will have:
- Bob Smith, Owner at Bob Smith Ventures
- Bob Smith, Adviser at High Flying Startup
Use option 2 if it’s important that you can see the contact from each organisation.
We are considering adding more flexibility in this area, but it’s not as straightforward as it might sound (e.g. need a way to link constrain tasks, emails and notes to the appropriate organisation) and so we don’t have a timeline for delivery at this stage.

This one is quite important, and I can't quite see what the difficulty is. If I add a task to a person under a certain organisation, the task has to do with that person, and who cares which company
Is this truly in the too hard basket?
Its now coming up on 4 years since this was originally posted as feedback.
It took Duncan 2 years to respond to the initial post.
Now almost 2 years on, we have had no update.
What on earth is the Capsule team working on that is more important?
option 1 and option 2 are no real options! When will you ship a feature like this? The system is not cheap, so please do something for our monthly fee!.

I think it would work to record info about the additional organization(s) in the About, if there was a way to set the company names as a link to the company listing in capsule.
It would be also nice to be able to add a link to another organization or person in a note. That would really streamline things for me.

I really don't think Capsule plans to do anything about this problem any time soon.

this would be a nice feature to have... the WORK AROUND SOLUTION which I use, I take advantage of the TAG feature and have developed my own system of tags relevant to my situation and can easily search my activity across organisations with multiple contacts. The flip side, I like having the information separate in the case where "one person" has multiple "organisations" particularly if they leave one organisation and the notes are relevant to the organisation. a nice feature to have, would be the ability to ATTACH a "note" to multiple contacts, this would leave the original note with the contact of the organisation, but place a "stamped copy" at another contact card, particularly if you wish to share information also multiple contacts and organisations.
I too need this, as it also would solve the problem with people moving to a new company and you still want to keep the log for both companies.
As a new user to Capsule I may be missing how to get this working for me but I have contacts that work for many organisations, Its the tasks and opportunity's with these guys who are my source of business revenue not payment though. But it feels they get lost within the many organisations they service and support, should I turn the system around and just put a the places they work in as a note and have the individuals as my main organisations. say i have 10 Tech guys each guy has ten organisations they support, I do my business with the Tech guy's but its their customer the opportunities are recorded against. I wish to have clear sight of not who pays the bill but the influencer thats I need to keep close to and know what is going on with in my world more so than the one who signs the cheques.
Would be great to see some movement on this. It's been on the board here for a while, and with little visible activity, The two options provided do not ease the problem. The consequences of the issue seem to multiply over time as you use the system, we have 4 records for some individuals now. It defeats the whole purpose of a CRM system when I can't get visual coverage of all activities relating to an individual.
This is probably a deal breaker for me. Very unfortunate. :(
This could very well be a deal breaker for me. It is essential that I can maintain many-to-many relationships between people and organisations.

For my work, I also need a tool to include one contact for more than one company. If there were a tool that could include more than one company in the profile of the person, would facilitate any update on the data of the person.
Could be like add another Addresses or Phone Number.
Please Please Add this feature to Capsule. I just signed up for Capsule to try it for one month and thinking this feature is available. I work in a volunteer organisation where i act as a resource for a number of organisation that have many branches and sub branch groups within the organisations and also there are many many committees under these organisations. There a a lot of people who work in 2, 3 organisations and also several different committees. Therefore this feature is big selling point for me, otherwise I will keep looking for other apps. I understand there can be some technical problems that needs to be sorted for this feature, but i am sure you can do it. Apart from that so far I like what I see.
In our case the need is derived from a great deal of quite senior contacts who are on the boards of a number of relevant organisations. If I click on any of those organisations, I need to be able to see the link to the individual's contact details.
@Robin You can add additional people to an Opportunity - they don't have to be in the same Organisation. Use the link to 'Add' contacts in the panel on the left hand side when viewing the Opportunity.
I need to do something similar - I have several opportunities where I have one customer but we are working together for a third party customer with whom we have direct contact as well, so we could do with being able to link one opportunity to 2 customers (direct and end user). I know this is slightly different, but it would be useful for other staff when dealing with the opportunity.
I started this request 3 years ago. 500 votes later. and number 4 on the list, I sincerely hope it now gets the attention it deserves.

We've started testing CapsuleCRM and some of our customers could make the move as well. Unfortunately, the inability to associate one contact with more than one company is a deal breaker for many of them... We will advise them to use your workaround in the meantime, but this is only a temporary fix.
CapsuleCRM is a great system. Keep up the good work, and let us know when we come close to implement this feature.
